CWW Partner and Volunteer case-study: Building the capacity of a leading Women's micro-credit federation.
Thanks to funding from the Scottish Executive, CWW has been running a programme of support for NGO’s and charities supporting livelihood recovery in areas of Sri Lanka affected by the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami.

CWW is working with the Women's Development Federation (WDF) in Hambantota as part of this programme. Read how a series of 4 volunteers are working with WDF on 3 month assignments here... WDF Case Study

Providing vital communications support for Indian environment NGO
Having worked for the Press Association for five years, and entitled to a 3 month career break, journalist Alison Purdy was keen to use her skills and experience in a completely different environment and culture.

After seeking out and applying to CWW, Alison was matched with environmental NGO Toxics Link (TL) based in Delhi. Alison left in March 07.

Legal Reform work in Belize

Social Research and Marketing in Bangladesh
Social Researcher and Scottish Executive employee Dr Amelia Lister-Kaye, motivated by her desire to live abroad, came to CWW as a volunteer with “a very vague idea of what it might really be like”…

Financial Planning with charity for the visually impaired
Calum Scott, a career economist and accountant went to Belize on a 3-month assignment to work with CWW partner - the Belize Council for the Visually Impaired (BCVI).

His main role was to develop a 5-year financial model incorporating forecasts and financial planning advice to help the BCVI ensure financial sustainability.

Research and Policy Development in India
Having completed an Economics degree and with work experience at Ernst and Young under her belt, CWW volunteer Sarah Langham applied to CWW to gain experience of NGO work in the developing world. She chose CWW as “it seemed to offer the most tailored placements, suiting the project to your skills and they looked for projects in areas where the differences were long term.”

IT and Accountancy in Belize
Although a qualified accountant, CWW volunteer Andrea Glenton had been working as an IT consultant over the last 7 years. She decided to volunteer as she “needed a change of scene and a break from corporate life for a while”

Andrea was initially asked by her Belize hosts to implement a financial computer system for the HQ office and 7 district offices. On arrival however Andrea, an experienced consultant, quickly identified that her old accounting skills were actually of much more use than she imagined……

Working as a financial manager, volunteer Alasdair MacFarlane was attracted to Challenges Worldwide to realise his desire to ‘do something different, overseas, but using my skills and experience’.
