    IT Consultant Case Study:
    Stuart Everard – CONFEDEC, Ecuador

CWW volunteer and IT Consultant Stuart was matched with a network of 1500 schools across Ecuador, who wanted to use IT to share ideas and teaching materials. He found that they had knowledge of IT - they knew it had potential but had no idea how to use it. He took on the mammoth task of helping them to understand more clearly what they wanted, and exploring options for a network.

Over his 3-month placement Stuart familiarised and trained management in the opportunities and benefits of IT for the organisation. He installed a Local Area Network (LAN) in preparation for an intranet and created an initial web presence for them.

Most significantly, Stuart made huge achievements in helping the organisation see IT as a useful tool for their development. He was able to point out many opportunities for using IT to reduce costs, improve communications, make administration more effective and help with teacher training and budget planning and when he left they were very excited about implementing these in the future.
