Background

Established in 2002, this organisation is one of the fastest growing strategic services firm in the international development sector. It aims to build intellectual capital dedicated to facilitating investments into socially motivated businesses and to assist these businesses in becoming more profitable and achieving greater scale through consulting and advisory inputs. Working in both indirect strategic advisory roles and direct design and execution modes, this organisation leverages its understanding of mainstream, profit oriented business models to create unique solutions that generate both financial and sustainable social returns. It connects to the social space through its emphasis on field exposure to its team, as well as by ideating and incubating innovative adaptations of mainstream, profitable solutions to address the broader challenges of businesses in development. This organisation is a company that is moving out from the start-up phase to a phase of growth. It is looking for a volunteer who has worked in a consulting environment in a senior role, and is familiar with the organizational development needs of such an enterprise. These inputs would be invaluable for its growth.

Purpose of Placement

This placement is to assist the organisation in doing two things:
    1. Creating a quality document that can act as a white paper for its view on partnerships in Microfinance
    2. Creating a strategic plan for entry into the broader south Asian market, for example, the Philippines, etc. The volunteer would need to work closely with the team at all times in order to develop the above documents.

    Duties and Responsibilities

      The volunteer would be required
    • Read, discuss, analyse and synthesise learnings from the organisation’s work
    • Use this understanding to develop the documents, with assistance from other members
    • Extra input by the volunteer will always be expected and appreciated.

You:

Skills and Experience Required

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • At least five years of work experience as a business manager
  • Experience of researching, developing, writing (or contributing to) and executing business and strategic plans
  • Have the ability to manage a significant workload independently.
  • Experience in building organizational capabilities through need analysis, organisational development interventions, training and facilitation, and program evaluation
  • Experience conducting market and stakeholder research
  • Be able to adapt to local market conditions and culture
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Be computer literate with a sound knowledge of MS Office packages, They will also be:
  • Self motivated with the ability to work independently
  • Professional, flexible, resourceful, adaptable, creative and culturally sensitive.
