The Project:
Purpose of Placement
To assist our partner organisation to strengthen its information management system and to ensure that the organisation’s information is accessible at all levels within the institution.
Background
Our partner organisation is a community-based non-governmental organisation established in 1998 which supports the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources for equitable regional development. It accomplishes this through protected area management, stakeholder collaboration, educational outreach, strategic advocacy and by supporting socially innovative and economically viable enterprise.
The organisation’s main geographical focus is the Golden Stream Corridor Preserve (GSCP), a 15,000 acre private protected area owned and managed by our partner, and the wider Golden Stream Watershed (GSW). The GSW is an area of high biological diversity and supports natural goods and services vital to the indigenous communities, including water supplies and natural resources. The organisation is developing an integrated watershed management plan to conserve the natural environment while supporting poverty alleviation of local communities.
In order to accomplish this, our partner requires assistance in administration systems to strengthen its information management. Currently a lack of structure and robust systems for information management result in inefficient working practices and loss of institutional knowledge. This support will strengthen the core capacity of the organisation and enable more effective delivery of conservation and livelihood objectives within the GSW.
