The Project:
Purpose of Placement

The Community Economic Development Officer is responsible for facilitating, promoting and ensuring community and economic development in order to achieve the organisation’s objective goals to achieve its expected outcomes.

Background

The organisation was established in February 1997 in the Republic of South Africa at a human rights NGO conference hosted by the Lawyers Committee for Human Rights.

The organisation was established to provide a platform for discussion and advocacy on challenges facing human rights and development in countries of Southern Africa. The organisation-Tanzania Chapter was established in 1998 and performed its activities hosted by one of its member, the Legal and Human Rights Center, (LHRC).

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Facilitate organization planning in order to identify and establish outcome based result opportunities to the targeted community
  • Identify opportunities for community economic development in order to develop sectors, projects and initiatives
  • Secure funding for organization development activities and programs
  • Assist the organisation on establishing development plans and projects
  • Perform other related duties as required


You:

Skills and Experience Required

A Degree in a related subject
  • Community Economic Development theories and practices
  • • Local, regional and territorial economic development potential and opportunities
  • • Generally accepted accounting principles
  • • Accounts payable and accounts receivables
  • • An understanding of relevant municipal legislation, policies and procedures
  • • An understanding of the Sub Saharan economic, cultural and political environment
  • • Ability to identify and promote community economic development projects and initiatives
  • • Ability to develop and analyze business plans
  • • Effective verbal, presentation and listening communications skills
  • • Effective negotiation and mediation skills
  • • Computer skills including the ability to operate computerized accounting, spreadsheet, word-processing, graphics and website development programs at a highly proficient level
  • The candidate must maintain strict confidentiality in performing duties.
  • Professional, flexible, resourceful, adaptable, creative and culturally sensitive.
