The Project:
Purpose of Placement

To provide the volunteer with exposure to the human rights situation in India and the State in which the organisation operates. The volunteer will also be working on the report on Karnataka State Commission for Women.

Background

Inequality, particularly between the sexes, remains a difficult issue and the majority of those among the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes continue to be marginalised. Matters of human rights violations continue to dominate discussions across all sectors. There is continued need to empower through education, training and advocacy on behalf of disadvantaged groups. This organisation continues to play an important role in promoting a human rights culture through advocacy and training.

The vision of the organisation is to conduct human rights education to strengthen civil society and monitor human rights violations particularly those against the underprivileged.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Will be taking up a study on the functioning of the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, which was set-up a year ago;
  • Assisting in drafting complaints to various human rights institutions;
  • Assisting in Documentation;
  • Website Management;
  • Fundraising.


You:

Skills and Experience Required

The ideal candidate will have:
  • Under-graduate/post-graduate experience in research;
  • Good organisational skills;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Self motivated with the ability to work independently;
  • Professional, flexible, resourceful, adaptable, creative and culturally sensitive.
