The Project: >
Background
Our member Organisation is making a major impact on the development of rural communities in India by helping to alleviate poverty and the lack of access to basic resources and providing information and services through rural IT kiosks. The use of information technology for fast and easy access to the rural market provides millions of villagers with access to competitive goods and services and eases the prohibitive costs of travelling to markets. The organisation is working with a large number of people – both in their headquarters in Delhi, and through the ‘entrepreneurs’ they have supported to set up the IT kiosks. They now need support to manage, develop and harness this human resource to enable the organisation to grow and maximise the impact they are making for rural communities.

Job Description
The “Rural Development Coordinator” and organisation team will work with a village based intern to execute a new template for rural development. It will start with a series of meetings within the village that identify problems, and lead to the development of services that address them. A blueprint for the project will be inherited by the volunteer, and it is their responsibility to complete the three-month pilot.
In addition to overseeing progress in the village, the volunteer will work with the Delhi based team to develop business models that incorporate community input for service kiosks, such as education and healthcare. By the end of the three month engagement, these kiosks will be operating in the village. The volunteer will be responsible for coordinating communication between the field and the head office and making sure progress is fluid.
The volunteer must be able to communicate the project to others, and have the management skills to make sure the parts come together. The volunteer must have the initiative to work independently, the ability to motivate others, and the creativity to address problems. The volunteer will be based in Delhi and will make occasional field visits.
