The Project:
Purpose of Placement

To assist the organisation in designing and developing their own user friendly website to be used for communication and awareness raising.

Background

This humanitarian organisation provides assistance without discrimination and works on four core areas: promoting humanitarian values, disaster response, disaster preparedness, health and community care. The activities undertaken can be divided into two groups. Firstly, health and community care which includes an HIV and AIDS peer education project, First Aid training and services, Home Health Care training, Diabetes and Blood Pressure screening and education, Social Welfare clubs for older persons and soup kitchen and meals provision to school children. The second group of activities relate to disaster management and include coordination with the Government’s National Emergency Management Organisation, Vulnerability and Capacity Assessment (VCA) projects and providing relief to victims of fires, floods and other natural disasters. CWW has worked with this organisation over a number of years providing support in various strategic areas and the organisation has once again requested our support in building a website.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct a needs analysis with the organisation’s staff and other relevant stakeholders to determine the essential requirements for the website
  • Design the website, based on:
  • - the findings of the needs analysis
  • - funds available for development
  • - ease of maintenance by a member of staff
  • Content will be provided by staff from the organisation but you will be required to edit this and work with them to design the layout etc
  • Develop the website following approval of the final design by the Executive Director
  • Identify and provide Linkages to local and international agencies providing the similar services
  • Provide training in website maintenance to members of staff

Skills and Experience Required

  • Experience of developing websites
  • Experience conducting stakeholder research
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Confident, motivated, flexible, enthusiastic and willing to learn
  • Self motivated with the ability to work independently
  • Professional, resourceful, adaptable, creative and culturally sensitive.
