The Project:
Purpose of Placement
The purpose of this assignment is to help the organisation coordinate a shadow research report to be submitted to the UN (United Nations). The volunteer will also assist with other advocacy and project work that the organisation requires.
Background
The project is aimed at helping children with disabilities in slums and villages of Karnataka. The project’s primary objective is to develop and promote an inclusive approach (child centric and learning approaches) in government schools. Children with disabilities will be equipped to continue the education through 10 child activity centres / supplementary coaching centre.
Rehabilitation services are provided to children with disabilities through a screening camp and provision of appropriate aids and appliances.
Rights and entitlements marginalized groups are ensured through community-based organisations, Children’s Parliament and State level Networks. The foundation supports State level Disability Networks in their strengthening and extending presence throughout Karnataka.
Goal:
Promoting accessible and inclusive environment for children with disabilities to have opportunity for all round human development so that they lead a life with dignity by combating discriminatory attitudes, which denies the basis rights of disabled children for their sustainable human development.

5. Swalambi (Independent) Improving the economic status of person with and disability and their family through thrift and credit society (small community bank)
Duties and Responsibilities
The volunteers will be involved in the following activities:
- Researching and drafting for UN Shadow Report
- To carry out further research and understanding of the issues by visiting other organisations
- Assisting the organisation in completing various advocacy and project work tasks.
- Assisting with administration tasks

Skills and Experience Required
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Team work; experience of working in multicultural, multidisciplinary teams
- Social science research experience
- Strong analytical skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Computer knowledge
- Self motivated with the ability to work independently
- Professional, flexible, resourceful, adaptable, creative and culturally sensitive.
